Twins Japan and Kadokawa Shoten have announced plans to move forward with a live-action movie adaptation of Kuyumi Oni’s supernatural procedural Ghost Hunt light novels, which have previously been turned into manga, anime, and audio drama. Yoshitaka Yamaguchi, formerly assistant director to Miike Takashi live-action anime adaptation Yatterman, will direct the movie.
Atsuyuki Shimoda (Sadako 3D) and Shotaro Oikawa are scripting the project with current cast set to include Akiko Maya Egami (aka Maya Fukuzawa) as Mai Taniyama, a high school student who becomes available with the Shibuya Psychic Research after breaking one of their camera, Mizuki Yamamoto as young celebrity medium Masako Hara, and Yosuke Kawamura as 25 year old monk Houshou Takigawa.
This leaves character like male lead/paranormal investigator Kazuya Shibuya, his assistant Lin Kōujo, 23 year old shrine maiden Ayako Matsuzaki and Australian Catholic priest John Brown still to be cast, and producers are promising some “surprises.”
Filming is planned to be completed by spring for a summer 2014 release.
Del Rey released the manga adaptation in North America and FUNimation released the anime version.
